Classification

Microsize delivers a full range of powder classification technologies for materials where the desired particle size range is already present and requires separation from undesired particle sizes (fines or oversize). Microsize can develop the process on the benchtop and seamlessly scale to pilot scale (18” screens) or commercial production (up to 60” screens). Microsize can handle from kilos to multi-ton processing spanning early development through NDA or ANDA launch.

Classification via Vibratory Screening

  • Multiple cuts (up to 4) can occur simultaneously by stacking screen levels
  • Easily scalable from benchtop to commercial 60” screens
  • Ideal for separation of oversize or fines from desired particle size range
  • Self cleaning screens prevent blinding and maintain high screen efficiencies/throughput

Mechanism

Feed material is fed to the center of top screen (or multiple stacked screens). Two concentric weights at the bottom of the unit are adjusted to direct powder in the horizontal plane toward the periphery (top weight) and vibrate in the vertical tangential plane (bottom weight) when rotated around a vertical axis at high speed. During travel, finer particles pass through screen mesh to the next section. Each level has a material outlet on the periphery to collect each classified cut of powder separately.

Classification via Air Swept (Turbo) Screening

  • Ideal for separation of oversize or fines from desired particle size range
  • Improved throughput and efficiency for lower bulk density powders
  • Easily scalable from benchtop to commercial 30” screens
  • Self cleaning of screens via air scraping wand

Mechanism

Incoming feed material is pneumatically presented to the front side of the screen. Oversize particles are prevented from passing and drop down the front side of the screen to a discharge outlet. Negative draw helps pull the fines through the separation screen to be pneumatically conveyed to a downstream filtered baghouse product collector for collection. Screen mesh pore size, feed rate and airflow adjustments can be varied to achieve change in screening efficiency/cut size/throughput to match clients specifications.
